ArtTactic is delighted to launch its third report on the auction market for Single Owner Collections at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips between 2016 and 2022 (YTD).  This report aims to provide new data, trends and insights into the growing importance of Single Owner collection sales in today’s art market.

In last year’s report we discussed the impact of the global wealth transfer taking place between the baby boomer generation and the younger generations. The trend is becoming ever more evident in the global art market. This year generated a record number of Single Owner collections coming to the auction market, resulting in a 64.2% increase in single owners sales value from the last peak in 2021. Single Owner collections now account for 31% of total auction sales by the auction houses.

This report provides new data, trends and insights into the growing importance of Single Owner collection sales at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips over the last 7 years. The analysis is based on 989 auctions, and over 140,000 lots sold during the period 2016 to 20th November 2022.
