Art market confidence declines further, but no sense of panic ahead of autumn season

ArtTactic’s Art Market Confidence Indicator weakened further in July, with negative sentiment currently outweighing positive in a ratio of 4 to 1. However, there is no sense of fear or panic in the art market at the moment, with the 6-monthly perceived risk level currently around the historic average. This could signal that the art market slowdown, is heading towards a soft rather than a hard landing.

The ArtTactic Art Market Confidence Indicator was launched in May 2005 and is now in its 38th edition. The survey is modelled on a similar methodology to the CEO confidence Survey that was launched in 1976 by the Conference Board in the US.
