American artist Robert Nava (b. 1985, Chicago, Indiana) produces vibrant, playful, and calculated illustrations, that portray whimsical creatures, and invoke childhood memories, while commenting on the conventions of painting as a medium. Often working on a large scale, Nava fuses abstract mark-making with a child-like figuration, embracing mistakes and visual abnormalities, in what he refers to as “carefully done wrong” paintings.
