Wayne Thiebaud was born in Mesa, Arizona in 1920 and currently lives in California. He is best known for his depictions of cakes, ice cream cones, lollipops and other ordinary objects, which he has turned into iconic Pop Art images. His work draw on influences from his advertising agency days in Los Angeles and New York in the mid 1950s. Thiebaud’s realist pop style is reminiscent of the ‘golden ad age’ in America and became a staple of the Pop Art movement, alongside main players like Warhol and Lichtenstein.
