We are pleased to launch our inaugural Revisiting report – a series of 2-page auction trend analysis on individual artists. In this first edition of the series we look at Andy Warhol with insights taken from our recent Top Artists Report.
The pandemic deflates an already soft market: It’s been a poor year for the otherwise active Warhol market, with auction sales down 74% between January and August 2020 compared to the same period last year. Only $729,000 has been added since then (during recent Hong and New York sales) and only one painting is destined for the auction block in the coming weeks, a 1964 Flower painting (61 x 61cm) by the artist is coming to auction through Phillips Evening on the 20th of October 2020. The supply of important Warhol works seemed to have dried up during the pandemic and 2020 is destined to become the weakest Warhol auction performance since the early 2000s.
