Auction Sales in September up 39.9% compared to last year

RawFacts Monthly signals that September sales across Sotheby’s, Christie’s & Phillips global auctions were up 39.9% compared to 12 months ago. This follows a 16.1% increase in auction sales in July (Only 1 auction was held in August). Total auction sales last month amounted to $353.3 million (based on 11,727 lots sold) versus $252.6 million in September 2016 (based on 10,178 lots sold).

September auctions showed a strong performance

During September 2017, nearly all (95.7%) of all auctions came within or above their pre-sale estimates, with two thirds (66.0%) of all auctions outperforming the expectations and ending up above the pre-sale estimates. This result follows a solid July, when most auctions achieved good results before the summer recess (77.3% of auctions within or above).
