Auction Sales in June up 3.9% compared to last year.
RawFacts Monthly signals that June sales across Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips global auctions were up 3.9% compared to 12 months ago. This follows an 14% increase in auction sales in May. Total auction sales last month amounted to $921.9 million (based on 10,874 lots sold) versus $887.4 million in June 2016 (based on 9,879 lots sold).
Modern and Impressionist art raise $429 million.
The modern and Impressionist art sector accounted for $428.8 million worth of sales in June 2017 (up 96.2% from $218.5 million in 2016). The second biggest category this June was post-war and contemporary art with $202.8 million (up from $164.8 million in 2016) in reported sales.
