Auction Sales in April down 8.2% compared to last year.

RawFacts Monthly signals that April sales at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips were down 8.2% compared to 12 months ago. This follows a 433.8% increase in auction sales in March. Total auction sales last month amounted to $700.1 million (based on 11,097 lots sold) versus $762.6 million in April 2016 (based on 12,705 lots sold).

Sales of Chinese and Asian art and antiquities raise $281.3 million.

The Chinese and Asian art sector accounted for $281.3 million worth of sales in April 2017 (down from $324.1 million in 2016). The second biggest category this April was the Jewels and watches sector with $192.6 (up from $170.3 million in 2016) million in reported sales.
