Old Master Paintings Sales in 2021 at Christie’s and Sotheby’s were up 37% from 2020

After some dramatic changes to the traditional calendar for the Old Masters market in 2020, the market’s diary returned to a sense of normality in 2021, albeit with some interesting additions. Maintaining a digital presence whilst staging more traditional physical sales and having a presence in “cross-category” sales ultimatelly allowed the Old Masters market to see it’s best year with a peak in total sales of $294 million (up by 37% from 2020).
