Njideka Akunyili Crosby (b. 1983, Enugu, Nigeria) creates densely layered figurative compositions that combine collage, drawing, painting and printmaking. Her work is often autobiographical and routinely fuses both Nigerian and American influences and source material, reflecting on contemporary African life, and that of her family, along with her experience as an expatriate living in the USA. Crosby was awarded an honorary doctorate from Swarthmore College in 2019 and is the recipient of a 2017 MacArthur Fellowship. She received a BA (Hons.) from Swarthmore College (Pasadena) in 2004, and an MFA from Yale University School of Art (New Haven) in 2011. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
