Brazilian artist Lucas Arruda (b. 1983, São Paulo, Brazil) is best known for his intricate and meditative painting compositions, which at first glance appear to be fields of pure abstraction, but upon closer inspection evoke landscapes. Painting his scenes from memory and with no link to a specific geographic location, Arruda captures the idea of landscape as a structure, rather than as a real place. Arruda graduated with a BFA from Faculdade Santa Marcelina, São Paulo, in 2009. He currently lives and works in São Paulo.
