The colour-saturated and abstract paintings of American artist Loie Hollowell (b. 1983, Woodland, CA) explore the bodily landscape, through the themes of sexuality, pregnancy, and birth. Referencing her own personal experiences, her geometric compositions use symbolic shapes – such as mandorla, ogee, and lingam – to build her distinctive visual lexicon. Hollowell graduated with a BA from the University of California in 2005 and received her MFA in Painting at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012. She currently lives and works in New York.
