Art market confidence survey signals positive start to the year.
The findings of the latest ArtTactic Art Market Confidence survey conducted in January 2022, shows that expert sentiment remains positive about the art market in the coming 6 months. The latest ArtTactic Confidence Indicator reading came in at 75, down from 81 in July 2021.
Primary Market: The latest Primary Art Market Confidence Indicator shows a reading of 91, up from 76 in July last year. This is the highest survey reading since June 2011. This signals that experts believe the primary art market will strengthen further in the first half of 2022, built on the momentum over the last year and the optimism that the art market will soon revert to normality as Covid restrictions around the world are easing.
Artist Ranking: Cecily Brown tops the established contemporary short-term confidence ranking and Njideka Akunyili Crosby heads up the ranking for ‘on-the-rise’ artists. The report includes both short-term and long-term confidence indicators for 82 Established and On-the-Rise contemporary artists (see list of artists below).

The ArtTactic Art Market Confidence Indicator was launched in May 2005 and is now in its 35th edition. The survey is modelled on a similar methodology to the CEO confidence Survey that was launched in 1976 by the Conference Board in the US.
