Auction Analysis: London Post-War and Contemporary Sales – Feb 2016

Feb 2016 Post-War & Contemporary Evening sales in London raised a total of £126,205,000 (excluding buyer’s premium). It fell short of the pre-sales estimates of £132,120,000 to £192,410,000. Furthermore, the total among Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips was significantly lower than the evening sales in February 2015. Notably, this represented decrease in total value of 43.4%. However, despite the sharp drop in overall sales, bidding on selected lots remained strong. In the case of Christie’s, 46% of all lots sold above the mid-estimate.
