London’s evening sales of Post-War and Contemporary art down 17.7% from October 2018

Since London’s post-war and contemporary art evening auctions reached their peak in October 2017, the market has experienced two consecutive seasons of decline, 9% between 2017 and 2018, and a further 18% between October 2018 and October 2019.

London Autumn auction sales were tepid with top lots pulling the weight

Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Phillips post-war and contemporary art evening sales raised £120,985,000 last week, surpassing the pre-sale low estimate of £109,910,000. The sales total is down 17.7% from October 2018. Top lots added significant padding to sales totals for all auction houses proving to be crucial.
