London Marquee auctions helped by weaker currency

Total sales from Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillips London Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening auctions raised £158.7 million against the total pre-sale estimate of £136.5 million to £176.9 million. This was 22% higher than October last year, and 55% more than October 2020. The significant drop in pound sterling against the dollar is likely to have been a contributing factor to this increase in GBP sales, as sales in USD terms came in level with October 2021.
