The June Impressionist & Modern sales at Sotheby’s and Christie’s in London totalled £185,110,000 across the two evening sales, representing an decrease in the hammer total of 27% from June 2017. The combined sales total ended up slightly below the pre-sale estimate of £196,100,000 – £257,200,000.

Sotheby’s Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale was down 39.6% from June last year. Sotheby’s total market share came in at 40.5% (down from 48.9% in June 2017, and 80.6% in June 2016).
Sotheby’s adds more guarantees: Sotheby’s gave guarantees for 15 lots in total (41.7% of the total sale value based on the low estimate of these lots). This represents a increase from last year, where 7 lots were guaranteed.
