New York’s evening sales of Impressionist and Modern art 21.2% short of their combined pre-sale estimates
The Impressionist and Modern art evening sales in New York last week raised a total of $510,980,000* (excluding buyer’s premium), falling short of the total pre-sale estimate of $583,530,000 – $818,020,000; 21.2% lower than the sales total in November 2017. However, combined the sales did represent an increase of 46.2% from November 2016 hammer totals.
Financial guarantees increase over 20% in value in the last year
The overall value of guarantees (based on the low estimate) increased by 46.1% from November 2017, from an estimated $176.7 million to $258.2 million. However, the number of guaranteed lots is decreasing – falling by 20% from 40 in November 2017 to 32 lots this year.
