Gupta has been recently been referred to as the Damian Hirst of India. He works in various media, yet he is most known for his sculptures, these are often made of accumulation of everyday objects such as antiquated machinery and stainless steel cooking utensils. Through clichéd images of everyday life in India, Gupta plays and reflects on the relationship between traditional and contemporary cultures in the rapidly changing India, and more specifically the steady disappearance of traditional rural lifestyle.
