Safwan Dahoul is a Syrian artist, born in 1961 in Hama. In 1985, attended the Fine Arts Faculty of Damascus and later obtained a Doctorate in Plastic Arts from the Higher Plastic Arts Institute of Mons, Belgium. He has participated in international art fairs and solo and group exhibitions throughout the Middle East, Europe and the US.Dahoul’s inspiration varies from artists such as Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel the Elder to ancient Assyrian and Pharaonic art.
Working in a consistent style for most of his career, Dahoul’s work reflects upon his interpretation of daily life in the form of momentary frames of an experience, thus closely resembling photography. Among his most famous works are paintings from the ‘Dream series’, a body of work that has evolved since 1982.
