Mohannad Orabi was born in Damascus, Syria in 1977. After graduating from the Faculty of Fine Art in 2000, Orabi travelled extensively. His artistic focus has shifted throughout his career, varying from portraits to full-length figures. Nevertheless, his subject matter remains constant – the human figure. His paintings are often portraits of the ‘symbolic self’ and the stylized protagonists convey an abstract aura of vivacity and innocence. Their exaggerated features remind the viewer of the childhood experience, which is a central theme of Orabi’s work. The artist actively participates in exhibitions and his works have been shown at Art Miami, SCOPE Art Fair in Basel, Art Hong Kong and the United Arab Emirates’ Palace in Abu Dhabi in 2007.
