Post-War & Contemporary Evening sales in London
Feb 2015 Post-War & Contemporary Evening sales in London raised a total of £222,906,000 (excluding buyer’s premium) against pre-sales estimates of £194,490,000 to £263,290,000.
The evening sale season exceeded last year’s February sales by 15%. It set a new record for London’s Contemporary Evening sales.
After Christie’s dominated most of the contemporary sales in 2014, Sotheby’s had a strong come-back last week. The latter achieving a £106,342,000 evening sale – a European record.
This was just ahead of Christie’s £101,620,000 evening total. It also reflects a significant improvement from 12 months ago, when Christie’s came in 42% higher than its rival.
