We are delighted to launch the inaugural edition of our new report titled, It’s a Pass. Unsold Artworks at Post-War and Contemporary Evening Auctions 2015-2021.
Whilst the art market tends to focus on what sells, we believe there is also value in understanding what doesn’t. In this report we deep-dive into unsold lots at Christie’s, Sotheby’s and Phillips Post-War and Contemporary evening sales between January 2015 and June 2021.
About this report:
The research methodology is based on nearly 8,000 lots collected from 880 artists (born after 1890) at Post-War and Contemporary evening auctions from 2015 to the first half of 2021 in London, New York, Hong Kong and Paris. The analysis in this report does not currently consider Post-War and Contemporary sales in Milan, Amsterdam, mainland China or the Middle East, or any day or incubator sales internationally, however, these will be considered in future editions.
