Toyin Ojih Odutola (b. 1985, Ile-Ife, Nigeria) is a Nigerian-American artist acclaimed for her intricate multimedia drawings that explore identity, race, and narrative. Utilising ballpoint pen, charcoal, pastel, and pencil, she crafts layered compositions that reimagine portraiture and storytelling. Influenced by her transcontinental upbringing and inspired by artists such as Kerry James Marshall and Lucian Freud, Ojih Odutola’s work delves into the complexities of Blackness, power structures, and the interplay between the real and the imagined. Ojih Odutola graduated with a B.A. in Studio Art and Communications from the University of Alabama in Huntsville in 2008, and earned an M.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from the California College of Arts in 2012. She currently lives and works in New York.
