Resold lots with guarantees account for half the market

This supplementary report sits alongside our latest edition of the Impressionist & Modern Auction Guarantee Analysis. Since 2021, Marquee Evening sales at Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and Phillips have featured 426 guaranteed resale lots, generating a combined hammer total of $3.49 billion. These resold guaranteed lots represented 72.8% of the overall evening sale value across the period. Like last year, the majority (51.4%) of resold lots were guaranteed in H1 2025. This analysis closely examines the performance of 329 of these guaranteed repeat sales, focusing on the link between holding periods and return on investment.
