This is the third of our Revisiting reports – a series of 2-page auction trend analysis on individual artists. In this edition of the series we look at Shirin Neshat with insights taken from our recent Photography Auction Market Report, MENA Market Analysis 2020, and the Contemporary Art Market Confidence Report November 2020.

Shirin Neshat was born in 1957 in Iran, and moved to the US to study art in 1974. She works in the mediums of photography, video and film and she won the International Award at the Venice Biennale in 1999, and also the Silver Lion for best director at the 66th Venice Film Festival in 2009. Her works explore the relationship between women and the religious and cultural value systems of Islam.
