Auction Sales in October up 31.3% compared to last year

RawFacts Monthly signals that October sales across Sotheby’s, Christie’s & Phillips global auctions were up 31.3% compared to 12 months ago. This follows a 39.9% increase in auction sales in September. Total auction sales last month amounted to $987.1 million (based on 8,840 lots sold) versus $751.6 million in October 2016 (based on 12,832 lots sold).

Post-War and Contemporary Art raise $386.6 million

The Post-War & Contemporary art sector accounted for $386.6 million worth of sales in October 2017 (up 36% from October 2016). Chinese and Asian art followed with $231.1 million (down from $240.2 million in 2016) in reported sales.

London leads auction sales in October

Auctions in London accounted for 43.3% of total sales, ahead of Hong Kong (31.9%) and New York (12.9%).
