Which artists experienced exceptional growth in 2021?
We are delighted to launch the inaugural edition of our new Market Momentum report series, with this first edition taking a closer look at the Top 10 established contemporary artists (born between 1930 and 1975) whose auction market generated the most positive market momentum in 2021.
For this report, we have defined momentum as the rate of acceleration of an artist’s market – in terms of the speed at which the price is changing, the level of change in sales (liquidity) and finally how much prices exceed expectations (hammer-ratios). We believe these indicators of positive market momentum can be seen as a measure of overall market confidence in these artists’ markets.
As we head into 2022, we will be watching these artists’ markets carefully to see if the momentum built up over the last year can be sustained in the coming 12 months. We will also be closely watching the market to see when momentum is building up in other artist’s markets.
This Report includes:
- Top 10 Artist Profiles and Market Dashboards
- Top 50 Ranking Table (sales, lots, average prices and hammer ratio)
