The MENA Modern and Contemporary Art Market contracts 37% in 2020: Overall, it was a challenging year for the MENA art auction market. The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the region’s major art events from art fairs, biennials, museum exhibitions to auctions. Auction sales raised a total of $21.2 million against pre-sale estimates of $20.2 to $28.7 million. This was 36.8% lower than the auction sales total in 2019. Weaker sales at Tehran Auction and Christie’s were key contributing factors to the decline.
