Hidden Value: Zhang Peili – March 2013
|Researchers||Anders Petterson, Nathan Engelbrecht, Ofelia Botella, Alexandra Petroleka|
|Report Type||Artist Report|
ArtTactic is delighted to launch a new monthly series of research reports looking at contemporary artists who have played a pivotal role in recent art history. The purpose of these reports is to highlight market asymmetries between the artist’s cultural and economic context , and to shed light on what we call ‘hidden value’.
Zhang Peili is a natural first choice for this series. He is considered the father of Chinese video art, and he continues to inspire new generations of artists through his practice and his teaching. Still, the commercial market for his video work remains restricted to a dedicated group of collectors and museum institutions. We believe this will soon be changing.
