The Design market is increasingly modelling itself on the structure of the art market
ArtTactic’s Art Market Reports profile key geographical areas of the art ecosystem, providing an overarching survey of the unique characteristics of each specific market. Since Phillips de Pury organised the first ‘Design Art’ sale in 2001, this young market has come a long way. Not only are auction volumes about 30 times higher than what they where 10 years ago, but certain aspects of the market for collectible Contemporary Design is steadily converging towards the contemporary fine art market. The design market is adopting the same characteristics, such as unique objects and limited editions. Furthermore the market is becoming increasingly reliant on the same eco-system, in terms of museums, galleries, art fairs and auctions – to sell, promote and validate the design objects, outside the more traditional commercial design mass-market.
This is ArtTactic’s first Design Market Report. The report profiles the efforts of the core Design galleries, museums and curators who help to make this sector a dynamic area of the global creative economy.
