Ghanaian artist Amoako Boafo (b. 1984, Accra) is acclaimed for his richly coloured and striking portrayals of African diasporic subjects. His work challenges conventional notions of both Blackness and gender, and highlights the critical role that portraiture can play within contemporary culture. Taking inspiration from photographs of people in his own life, his paintings express the vibrancy of daily life, touching on topics such as friendship, community, and social and political struggles. Currently based in Vienna, he attended Ghanatta College of Art and Design in Accra (2007-2008) and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna in 2019.
