Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst is an English artist born in Bristol and educated at Goldsmith’s College in London. His varied artistic oeuvre is marked by several well known series, including installations featuring animal carcasses in vitrines, Spot Paintings, Medicine Cabinets, Butterfly Paintings, and diamond-studded skulls. He is a prolific artist who often incorporates the themes of science and religion into his works. One of the principal artists in the Young British Artist (YBA) group, he possesses many achievements, including a Turner Prize in 1995, a Sotheby’s auction sale dedicated to his works in 2008, and most recently a retrospective at the Tate Modern.
