Modern Indian Art Market picks up, while Contemporary remains subdued
The results from the recent Indian art auctions at Saffronart, Christie’s and Sotheby’s, showed that the Modern Indian art market is recovering from the recent downturn. Total sales value of Modern works (excluding pre-modern) came in at .42 million, against .67 million in June 2009 – a 41.1% increase. This is only .85 million short of the total achieved in September 2008 (pre-crisis).
