After reaching a low point in November 2008, the ArtTactic Confidence Indicator for the US and European contemporary art markets has strengthened significantly.For the first time since May 2008, the current confidence level have broken through the 50-level. With a reading of 58, the Indicator is currently standing 4% higher than the reading in November 2007, shortly after the first signs ofthe credit crisis emerged. HIGHLIGHTS:
- Contemporary art market confidence returns to autumn 2007 level, however uncertainty about the sustainability of the global economic recovery remains
- Both primary and auction market confidence are now in positive territory, signalling that we could see further uplift inthe market from current levels.
- The US and European contemporary art market is likely to rebound quicker than anticipated a year ago, with 47% believing it has already rebounded or is likely to do so within ayear.
- Speculation risk remains subdued, and there is no signals yet that speculators are returning to the market.
