Latin American art auctions sales down 24.3% in the first half of 2016 as global art market cools down

The Latin American art auction sales in New York in the first half of 2016 totalled $32,578,142 (excluding buyer’s premium) based on auctions at Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Phillip’s. This result was 24.3% lower than the total volume in the second half of 2015 ($43,062,100), putting an end to the positive sales trend which the market had been experiencing since the first half of 2014. This sales volume was the lowest since the first half of 2011. It also fell short of market expectations, with pre-sale estimates of $45,225,000 to $63,952,000.
